Iranian actress Elham Hamidi starring in popular series ‘Passion to Fly’ sits down for an exclusive interview with ifilm channel.

Hamidi is best known for playing positive roles. It is, however, noteworthy that she has always strived to perform roles differently.  This also contributed to diversity of her roles on the small and big screen.

The actress starred in ‘Prophet Joseph’ series as the wife to God’s prophet. She also played the role of a prominent wife in ‘The Rise of Mokhtar’ as well as ‘Passion to Fly’.

ifilm Persian has conducted an interview with Hamidi in Persian. Below are the highlights of the talk with the famed actress.

ifilm: When your name appears in the opening credits of the film, we expect a new positive role from you coming up on the screen. How is the casting in your case work? Did you choose your roles on your own or was it just enforced?

Hamidi: You see, there is no forcing out and I should say that I don’t Like negative roles. As they say with negative roles are not my cup of tea. I don’t like abominable, disgusting roles as they give a negative  feeling to the audience.   However, this is one side of the story, as our directors don’t like to take a risking giving different roles to our actors.

Once an actor is well-established in one role, directors will assign the same type of role in their upcoming works. Eventually, apart from my dislike of playing as an antagonist, I didn’t receive good acting offers for such roles as well.  Whenever I asked director to give me a negative or supporting role, they declined.

My face or voice might be the culprit for not bagging any negative role. This is while I like to appear in gray as well as various roles. Another reason could be my audience doesn’t accept me in negative roles and reject my representations.

ifilm: You were noticed and acclaimed by appearing in ‘Passenger from India’ series and ‘So Close, So Far’ film. You were at the beginning of your career at that time, though. Was it hard to be seen at the very beginning?

Hamidi: It was way too hard. After those series and films I was offered many roles, though I didn’t accept them so that my resume after those acclaimed works wouldn’t be called into question. That is why I tried to be selective and choose the best offers. I accept on-screen roles by all means so long as I get good offers.

ifilm: As a closing question, what is up next?

Hamidi: Recently, the shoot for TV series ‘Ancient Land’ wrapped up. I heard the series title changed to ‘Mother Land’. I appear in the first six episodes of the work and then will be the flashbacks.
